Political consultants in Africa have called on the new president of Ethiopia Sahle-Work Zewde to walk her talk of elevating the position of women in Africa to deepen popular democracy.

President of the Association of Political Consultants-Africa, Kehinde Bamigbetan said the refreshing news is coming weeks after the association held its third Africa Political Summit in Nairobi, Kenya where calls for more women participation in politics were made.

Bamigbetan, who spoke from Lagos, Nigeria, said Zewde’s track record at the United Nations raises hope of a technocrat at the helm of affairs in Africa’s second most populous country and assures that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will be supported by the expertise of a seasoned diplomat.

“ The Association of Political Consultants –Africa is elated by this development because it will facilitate our objective of engendering rationalism in governance and politics. Both the career path of the new president and her radical position on women liberation makes her a natural partner of our association.”

He remarked that the development also shows the meeting of minds as the APC-Africa begins plans to hold its 2019 conference and Fourth Africa Political Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in September, next year.
